They're Moving!

It's moving weekend! My little Lucy moved most of her things out last night. Once she was gone, it felt empty and sad but also exciting and new.

I am going to miss my roommate. A lot.

I keep attempting to write the reasons why I will miss her and why she is awesome....turns out it's really sappy, so I will spare you; but I really am going to miss living with a wonderful girl that feeds me, lets me borrow her clothes, and has listened to me tirelessly talk about guys.

I am living with a man and a boy now. Weird.

Luckily, my guy is adorable, feeds me, and has cozy sweaters for me to wear.

A Storybook Farmhouse

What a dreamy farm house to live in. I would move into the 200 year old farmhouse in Wales immediately. The sheep grazing, the white washed walls, the stone, the exposed beam work, the worn and colorful textiles... It's so good.

Keeping It Local: Red Onion Woodworks

Red Onion Woodworks might not be local to Portland, but they are located just an hour.5 south of this lovely city - five minutes away from the first college I graduated from. I came across their lovely cutting boards on Etsy and fell in love with the salvaged black walnut board pictured above. Isn't it beautiful??!

Camille, the owner, takes sustainability very seriously. She even lives in a 450 square foot cabin at the end of a gravel road with her husband and two children. I love when families live in tiny houses together. All the cutting boards are made using locally sourced wood, including trees taken out of backyards by arborists and hardwood logs salvaged from industrial logging operations. She reused or repurposes shipping material and applies a non-toxic finish to all of her cutting boards and serving trays.

I love Oregon and it's craftspeople.

Paisley Magic

Etsy store, Paisley Magic, sells some wonderful quilts. I love how simple and worn they look. They are made from 3 to 4 cotton sari layers and hand stitched in a tradition style called Kantha. These quilts are sure to look great on your bed, draped over your sofa, or wrapped around your shoulders. I would probably try to figure out a way to wear mine.

My office is freezing. Someone bring me one. 

Swedish Country Home

This is a pretty neat Equestrain Estate in Sweden. So many romantic evenings must be happen here don't you think? I hope they do, anyway. Check out more photos here.

Old Bernal House

 

I have recently become obsessed with Feldman Architecture (I posted this house a couple of weeks ago), so I will likely be sharing more of their work in the near future. 

 

Their designs celebrate light-filled open spaces with a strong connection to the site and landscape; while designers explore innovative and expressive ways to apply sustainable technologies and adaptations to traditional solutions which complement the firm's contemporary designs.

I love the open and airy feeling of this home. The architectural details and color contrast of the materials pull your eyes in. I was about to write about my desire to take a bath in their bathroom - if they invited me over for a dinner party, I might do just that. Then I realized that I not only want to take a bath - but I want to take a nap on the sofa, and climb the ladder looking for a good book, and make something delicious in the kitchen (or watch someone make it for me), and sit outside on a floor pillow on a warm night with a glass of wine. If you give a mouse a cookie... 

It's a beautiful, beautiful home.

Carpenters Work Bench

I have a deep admiration for people that can create something new and useful from reclaimed materials. This kitchen island, designed by Elisa Cavani, is made from a carpenters work bench. 

This wouldn't be that difficult to re-create; but I am still wondering where the sink connects to plumbing? It obviously makes a prettier picture without it.

Terrain even sells a carpenters work bench if you can't find one in your grandpas garage.

So let's break this down. Carpenters are hot. Vintage is awesome. Porcelain sinks are sexy. Jesus was a carpenter, so that gives your kitchen island a connection to the divine. Yea, you should think about making one.

This is such a fun kitchen. Why are Union Jacks so cool? They just are. That's all I know. The cutting board art display is super cool too. If you are into it, all you need to do is find some old cutting boards, (try an antique store or your grandmas garage) then dip dye them to match.

Light and Airy and Awesome

 

 

 

This place is so cool. I love the cantilevered open stairs and the wood soffit (ceiling) so very much. Don't even get me started about the outdoor shower...Pebbles massaging your feet as you stand in open air to shower...I'll try not to stare at my shower in disgust when I go in the bathroom next.

Sussex Cottage

 

 

This Sussex homes mild colors and use of gray and white, provokes naps. It is the home to the daughter of an interior designer and is filled with antiques. The kitchen is brilliant - the wood beams are phenomenal. But then again, I get overly excited about exposed beams. I think it is safe to say a ghost lives in this house, but it's definitely a sarcastic, dry witted British ghost that shows up for tea time.

Blackline Stoneware

I love this stoneware. I wrote about it on Fig Studio last week and thought I would share it here as well. I recently posted about a School House Electric tote bag that I adore - and, well, this is more SH Electric product.. It's just so simple and lovely.

Origami Lights

 

Aren't these Origami lights neat? They are made out of one sheet of paper and folded up into a light fixture. That's pretty cool if I do say so myself.

Red Roofs and White Walls

 

I don't know what my deal is with Swedish homes, but for some reason I think they are the greatest. It's the white... What I love the most about this apartment are the light fixtures (luminaires - if you want to know what the technical term for a light fixture is.) They are all funky, different styles. I think that the one above the bed is my favorite. And what's not to love about the sweet little balcony?? This spring my balcony is going to be given a serious make-over. Muddy rain boots and half dead plants are not cutting it.

Simple and Sweet
