Paisley Magic

Etsy store, Paisley Magic, sells some wonderful quilts. I love how simple and worn they look. They are made from 3 to 4 cotton sari layers and hand stitched in a tradition style called Kantha. These quilts are sure to look great on your bed, draped over your sofa, or wrapped around your shoulders. I would probably try to figure out a way to wear mine.

My office is freezing. Someone bring me one. 

Mini Garage House

Seattle based artist, designer and welder Michelle de la Vega took an old garage and turned it into a little house. It's fully functioning and only 250 sq. ft., but isn't lacking comfort. Most fixtures and pieces of furniture were custom built for the project or salvaged, refurbished and repurposed by the designer/owner. 

I think little homes are great! Especially for those who are aware of and strive to decrease their carbon footprint, living simply and minimally is the way to go.

I found this cute little vacation rental while perusing vacation rental houses in Oregon. It's feels like a sweet little modern day fairy tale house and that stove in the kitchen is fabulous. It's in Rhododendron (on Mt. Hood) if you are looking for a little weekend escape with family or friends.

 

 

 

Spanish Estate

 

A modern Spanish country home tucked into the hills of Cáceres, Spain, was once an abandoned stable.  The architecture firm ÁBATON Architects transformed the building with respect to the surrounding environment. Since the home is fairly isolated it was designed with a system of solar panels with accumulators that collect energy in the summer and settled turbines that feed electricity to accumulators in winter. The stone found in the surrounding area was used to build the house and the swimming pool. The supporting walls in the interior were replaced by light metal pillars, the haylofts in the upper area were converted into bedrooms, the water through became the fountain that is situated in the interior courtyard of the property.

Everything about this home is fantastic. The architecture, the stone, the whiteness (which is no secret that I adore), the big sofa, the bed tucked away in a candle lit nook, the Eames chairs, the pendant lights, the natural light pouring into the space. So, so, so good.

French Village House

 

A gorgeous home in Provence, France, owned by English antiques dealer, Josephine Ryan. The home had been uninhabited for a long time and required hard work and imagination when Josephine started to restore it. She defines the home as “a mix of modern, rusty and extravagant”.

This home is so great! I can just feel myself sitting the living room breathing in the fresh country air mixed with the smell of old floor boards.

A Frame

 

I am leaving for Tahoe today, so I thought an A Frame post would be appropriate. I have a love for A Frame architecture. Maybe they remind me of my childhood, maybe I love the letter A, maybe they just scream cozy winter refuge.  

Notice that the room extension is floating in the above picture? Clever.

This house is really interesting to look at. The exterior is made of stone, wood, concrete, tile, metal, and glass. It's kind of amazing because it sounds like it could be a disaster but it is really nice to look at.

LEED Silver

 

173 Park Street Residence in Connecticut, is an impressive cedar-sided and zinc-clad contemporary townhouse designed by Joeb Moore & Partners.

The home LEED Silver certified, has four bedrooms, four bathrooms and two half-baths (that's a lot of toilets), and a breezy 750 square-foot roof terrace with a hot pool and a cold pool. Oh.. And there is an elevator. 

The exterior is super cool looking, however I am not a huge fan of the interior, hence the lack of interior photos. You can check them out by clicking the link at the bottom.
