I found this cute little vacation rental while perusing vacation rental houses in Oregon. It's feels like a sweet little modern day fairy tale house and that stove in the kitchen is fabulous. It's in Rhododendron (on Mt. Hood) if you are looking for a little weekend escape with family or friends.

 

 

 

Flirty Spanish Apartment

 

This downtown Madrid apartment is full of character. Owned by a young couple with a child it is their second house when they travel home to Spain to visit family. The apartment is decorated with pieces they have collected while traveling. 

If I were to start listing everything I thought was fantastic about this home I would probably list everything except maybe the boxed insect art. Oh, to have a personal refuge in Madrid... Maybe in another life.

Ridge House

 

Tahoe Ridge House was designed by a Berkeley based studio, WA Design Inc.

 "A mix of Western Red Cedar and Galvalume metal siding applied as a tight skin pay further homage to the old mining buildings. On the interior of the home, large recycled timbers and heavy metal bracketing extend the industrial aesthetic and resist the substantial snow loads of winter. Large Sierra White granite blocks are carved and hewn to form the fireplace hearths. The building throughout is clearly rooted in and derived from its mountainous site. A large male black bear has lived in the boulders above the house for many years and remains undaunted by recent construction, occasionally strolling unhurriedly down the new entry drive.”

 

 

 

 

My dad lives and builds homes with my uncle in Tahoe so I am familiar with the style there. This definitely looks like a cozy Lake Tahoe vacation house. I can almost smell it. Taking a nap on that couch after a day out on the hill sounds fantastic. Or, let's be honest, a nap after breakfast sounds great too. Thank goodness Thanksgiving and a week in Squaw Valley is just around the corner!

Lake House

 

This is an interesting little lake house by Anderson-Wise Architects. It's nice that it isn't big. I often see really large extravagant vacation homes that are probably great for hosting lots of friends and family, but sit empty the majority of the time. This little place is great, it's the perfect little spot for weekends away and you can jump right out of the window into the lake!

Rolling Huts

 

Rolling Huts in Mazama Washington, were designed by Olson Kundig Architects in response to the owners need for guest housing.
"The huts sit lightly on the site, a flood plain meadow in an alpine river valley. The owner purchased the site, formerly a RV campground, with the aim of allowing the landscape return to its natural state. The wheels lift the structures above the meadow, providing an unobstructed view into nature and the prospect of the surrounding mountains."

Stone Creek

 

Set into the sloping landscape in a non-intrusive manner, this remote, rustic and modern home in Bigfork Montana welcomes guests with an intriguing entryway of stone and stacked wood pieces. The living roof is so darn beautiful. I think I have been starring at the image below for maybe ten whole minutes. This place is so good.

Another Greek vacation home.

Vacation home on the Mykonos Island of Greece. The kids beds are adorable and a great idea for a vacation home. I am a ceiling girl, always checking out what's happening up above, and of course I love the exposed beams. Painting the ceiling blue in the kids room was also a nice way to mix it up a little.

Awesome Window Wall.

The idea for the cabin is that of a lakeside shelter in the woods—a little box with a big window that opens to the surrounding landscape. The cabin’s big window-wall (30 feet by 20 feet) opens the entire living space to the forest and lake. Materials are low maintenance—concrete block, steel, concrete floors and plywood—in keeping with the notion of a cabin, and left unfinished to naturally age and acquire a patina that fits in with the natural setting.

I had to share this because the window wall is bad ass. Let's forget that mosquitoes usually take up residence next to lakes and focus on how awesome it would be to open that window wall out to the fresh lake air. Really, this place is a bit to big, open and minimal for my taste. However, for a weekend retreat it is perfect.

Oh Greece..

This home is located on the heavenly island of Tinos. It is designed by Greek architecture firm Zege Architects and represents all that Tinos stands for. Responsible for the interiors of the house was it's owner and Greek interior designer Marilyn Katsaris.
Respecting its architectural surroundings and capturing the day to day beauty and simplicity, this place is a perfect fit for it's surroundings.

This vacation home is actually made up of two separate houses which have been brought together through a picturesque veranda.

In an open plan layout almost everything is built in with only the pure necessary pieces of furniture items exposed as loose furniture objects creating simplicity and ease. It also creates the feeling that things are hidden. The books are placed in the built in compartments, the radiators tucked into niches.

It's a beautifully designed home that carefree and simple. I would move in in a heart beat.
