Wake

Why not turn your firewood into an art project? Michigan artist Michael McGillis did just that and turned a row of logs into a beautiful sight. It's titled Wake, and the was originally installed in 2006 in Minnesota. Simple and wonderful.

A Day At The Opera

We are going to Mozart's Don Giovani this weekend to celebrate Isaacs birthday. I am really looking forward to it! I haven't been to the Opera in years. Of course Isaac is obsessed with memorizing the entire thing so he can sing along. Gosh, he sure is cool.

Have a great weekend!

Art Stable

Art Stable, by Olson Kundig Architects, was built on the site of a former horse stable in Seattle. It's a seven story, mixed-use building filled with adaptable live/work units.

The way I understand it, there is a crane attached to the alley facing side of the building to move oversized objects in and out of the building; while on the street side there are large hinged windows that open up to provide natural ventilation.

Let's take a moment and fantasize about being a painter or maybe a sculptor living in one of these spaces. Beethoven blaring, paint stuck to your face, fumes getting you a little high before you remember to open your giant window, really attractive friends stopping by with a bottle of wine... Oh the life...

What makes this place cooler (or hotter) is the geothermal heating system. This is one of the first times this type of geothermal system has been used in the USA. The pump system runs through the structural pilings in the buildings foundation, deep down into the ground where it's nice and toasty.

Very Sweet

If you feel like being a little mushy today, watch this cute wedding video. It's raining this morning in Portland for the first time in a while; so it's the perfect time to be a little mushy. It forced a head tilt and smile out of me for a few minutes.

Bison Ceramics

This ceramics shop makes my heart melt. Or maybe it just makes my arms feel weak. I am trying to decide what exactly it's doing to my body that is appropriate to say on my PG13 blog.

Moving on. Obviously I love this Australian ceramic shop - Bison Ceramics. Why do I think it's great? Well, I secretly desire to be a clay thrower, that's not a huge surprise since I secretly desire to be most things that exist in the world. Well, not a whaler. Definitely not a whaler.

The sweet colors and simplicity of the pottery is perfect, while the clean design of the store allows the pottery to shine. Their aim is to create a product that last a lifetime. They use recycled packaging materials and renewable energy to run their kilns and buildings.

I either want to fly to Australia to wander around this shop for a while, or throw my current career(s) out the window and paint pottery for a living.

Plywerk

I have been looking for a place to print some of my work on canvas and then I stumbled across PLYWERK. They are kind of awesome. Instead of canvas, they print on wood. It's an eco-friendly option and made right here in Portland, OR. PLYWERK blank panels are made from sustainably harvested wood and you have the option of mounting your images with or without adhesive. Cool right?

Mineral Art

I am a huge Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams fan. I was in the showroom yesterday, in awe of everything or course, but mainly the amazing art pieces they have on display at the moment. One of my favorites was the mineral/crystal collection. The photo doesn't do them much justice - but they are wonderful sparkly minerals in shadow boxes. What is even better? They are created by an artist out of Salem, Oregon and can be doing worldwide. Stop by the showroom on Burnside and check them (and everything else) out!

Have a great weekend friends!

All Things

Now is a time of great change in my world. When I have a moment I will write about it, but right now I just need to live it. Do everything with great love today my friends. Most importantly, when you feel filled up with frustration, disappointment, irritation, and stress - pause, and love whatever the source of that pain is instead. Happy Thursday.

ixxi

Let's talk about ixxi. ixxi is a decorative wall system that allows you to create your own interior wall display. The ixxi cards are made of high grade synthetic matte paper, called Synaps; they are water proof, do not rip or curl, and are UV resistant.

This is a super cool product.  It's different and creative and allows you to create large wall art in a unique and fairly inexpensive way. You can collect all your instagram photos, a picture of your beloved dog posing for the camera, or maybe a really cute and sappy engagement photo, and blow it up as big as you want it. This would be a nice house warming gift too.

A little film.

I think this is such a sweet little film - and you guessed it - I am obsessed with the little country escape. What is my deal with escaping?? Answer: I am just a curious lady that likes care free days.
Have I posted this before? I am starting to forget what I have posted in the past. Oy vey.

Dart Photography

When I found Dart Photography, I thought she was located in Portland. I was wrong, she is a Nashville based photographer, but she comes out this way often. Her photos are beautiful, natural, and earthy, and they inspire me to go out and take pictures of the humans in my life.

Keeping it Local: Poetry Posts

So have you heard of Poetry Posts? Poetry Post are little glass front boxes on a post where people hang, you guessed it, a poem outside their house. Okay, it's not only poems.. You can also find jokes, stories, words of wisdom, a picture, or random deep thoughts to entertain passerby's. There is even a map that shows you where they are located! It's a little bit weird and a little bit marvelous. Would you put up a poetry post? What would you put inside?
