Nestled in the mountains of Fafe, Portugal, this house was constructed between two giant stones and linked with concrete.
This underground home in Vals Switzerland is set amidst a cluster of mountain houses and if you don’t look carefully you might miss it! The most striking thing about this stone house is the majestic Alpine view through a wide, elliptical opening in the hillside. Another entrance from a nearby barn leads residents and guests through an underground pathway, providing an alternate entryway into the home. The circular opening in the hillside allows for a lot of windows, which fill interiors with natural light while framing the amazing mountain views.

Modern design meets cave-dwelling with this awesome house nestled inside of a 15,000-square foot sandstone cave in Festus, Missouri. Built by Curt and Deborah Sleeper, the underground home features geothermal heating and passive design that keeps the interior comfortable while completely eliminating the need for a furnace or air conditioning.
